The smooth Airport Route 6 ended abruptly and the hustles and bustles of the city centre burst into life before me.
Hotels, guesthouse, bazaars, pedestrians, traffic came into sight as my tuk tuk built up its violent shakes and rattles, as though it would crumple into pieces any moment.
We were then riding on gravels not roads. And Siem Reap was still very wet from the flood brought about by Ketsana.
Suddenly, our tuk tuk took a turn into a lane….

And hey, presto! My home for the next 6 days, 5 nights appears!

“We will now go for your free welcoming drink.”
I was greeted at the entrace by this service lady with a very nice smile just like Soc Phean. The people of Cambodia have smiles that worth a thousand gold. After all the administrative necessities, she ushered me to the shed at the side. That, is the guesthouse cafe.
The yummy welcoming drink tasted very much like our Wen Tou Shue (文头雪) in Singapore!
The girl who showed me to my room was surprised to learn that I’m staying alone.
“We spread petals on your bed this morning!” she showed me proudly. I guess she must have thought I’m here on honeymoon..haha!
“You are staying alone?….Really??” She couldn’t believe. “Maybe I can stay with you…heehee….” She giggled.
“Hahahaha…..ok!” I was amused. I thought she would have seen enough lone backpackers.
It’s a beautiful room, isn’t it? Absolutely palatable as a honeymoon suite!
I decided to take the remaining of my day easy – checking out the Old Market and catching sunset at Bakheng. (But little did I know that heading out to Bakheng isn’t really a good way to take things ‘easy’!)
Many roads in Siem Reap are still without a name. Or at least I didn’t notice the road signs. So the best I can, is to show you the pictures.

Here’s another guesthouse starring back at me as I walked out of the lane. Crossing the road would bring me to the Old Market.
Question: Why did the chicken (a.k.a ‘Hot Chick’) cross the road?
Answer: To shop!!!
I got them for US$4 (S$6) each. My God, the same books would have cost me an average of S$45 each in Singapore!
Loots from the Old Market – shopping already on the first day! (Of course there are more to these…hehe…)
I later realized that the kids by the temples are selling the books at US$1~2. But there again, one of the aunties selling fashion wear at the old market old me that those are baloneys. They merely tell you a fake price to lure you to them, and you won’t get it at those prices eventually. Hmmm…..I dunno….
To be continued……

yup, the room definitely looks nice…and pretty decent….i am very tempted to go there now myself….and I guess I can get good tips fr u
No problem!
