26 JanChildren of the Aged

Does age diminishes our intelligence?

Is it definite that we grow old to become more brainless and stupid?

Is it inevitable that we will be less clear in our head as we age?

I defy all these ‘natural; symptoms! It’s not fair. Isn’t there a saying: ‘Older and Wiser’?

My mother was born in November, that means she is technically just 66 and not turning 67 as she ought to be according to her birth year. Why do I witness such a slow down and great reduction of her cognitive ability – her thinking, her ability to reason and make sense?

So many times I nearly wanted to spurt out the word “Stupid”, “Brainless”, whenever I witness yet another unbelievable case. I thought I must be living with someone who is turning senile. It’s extremely frustrating – how can I ask her go for a check up when the last time she was suspected for dementia, she resisted treatment vehemently?

How can I even bring those words out of my mouth, telling her she is sure displaying stark symptoms of being senile already at 66?

Or am I jumping the gun? She is just going through a normal phase of slowing down with age? If so what can I do about it? She’s driving me crazy, perhaps I’ll be senile before her at this rate.

So how does filial piety plays a part here. Am I unfilial if I feel suffocated? Because everyday I am wishing for my own place.

I don’t like the way I feel, yet I can’t stop the way the feeling goes. Maybe I’ll turn senile by 40.
